  • On Twitter, the lead of Kingdom Come Deliverance roasted the low player count of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
  • He compared the game’s player count to a 7-year-old RPG, as the latter had more players.
  • While some joined the thread with a humoristic approach, others didn’t find it funny and criticized the lead for this take.

Kingdom Come Deliverance Lead recently roasted the active player count of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The game lost a lot of its players pretty quickly, so the lead compared it to a 7-year-old game.

Due to that, the lead has been highly criticized by the fans

Why it matters: While the KCD lead could have thought it was hilarious to compare a 7-year-old RPG to a newly released one, some fans bashed him for it and called him unprofessional.

KCD Criticism
Kingdom Come Deliverance Lead Is Getting A Lot of Hate For His Recent Comparison| Source: Twitter

Many fans have joined the thread with a sense of humor, but others have criticized Daniel Vavra for this comparison. They think a developer should never think this way and should be mature about such topics, as a lot can happen in the gaming industry.

Also, it seems like Daniel Vavra wasn’t expecting a meltdown from a lot of people, as he was just happy to be doing a lot well even after so many years.

Have to say that I didnt expect such a meltdown just because I was happy, that we are doing suprisingly well after all those years. Chill everyone.

 -Daniel Vavra

KCD Criticism (2)
Fans Think That Developers Shouldn’t Roast A Game Like That And Should Be Mature

Kingdom Come Deliverance was released 7 years ago, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard was released just over a month ago. While this can be seen as the former being more favorable by the overall fandom, it could be taken as a disrespectful comparison by the latter’s fans.

On the other hand, many enjoyed the lead’s tweets and replied with a humorous approach. One even stated, ‘Based answer. I am pre-ordering the game now.’

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is set to release on February 4, 2025, and given its predecessor’s success, the game is expected to perform a lot better.

  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard is arguably one of the most criticized games this year.
  • Despite being surrounded by massive controversy, Time Magazine gave it Game of the Year.
  • Many fans made fun of the list as Black Myth: Wukong was at number 7, and Metaphor ReFantazio wasn’t even on the list.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been highly criticized due to it featuring a lot of ‘woke stuff’ in-game. Many fans have claimed that this agenda seems forced, as there is even a cutscene that lectures you for 2 minutes on misgendering someone.

That isn’t the only negative part of the game, as many fans have even claimed that it didn’t feel like a Dragon Age game. Due to that, a massive poll suggested that over 90% of the players didn’t enjoy it. Despite that, The Veilguard has won a Game of the Year award.

Why it matters: Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s writing is considered dehumanized and terrible by an influenced director, and the list just goes on. So, it being the best game of 2024 seems a little bit off.

Time Magazine has named the latest game in the Dragon Age series Game of the Year 2024. It wasn’t even nominated for the award at TGA 2024, and yet one of the most famous magazines has awarded it the most prestigious award

The magazine has ranked 10 games where Dragon Age: The Veilguard is at the 1st spot. Astro Bot and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are at the 2nd and 3rd spot, respectively. Black Myth: Wukong, the biggest hit of 2024, is at the 7th spot

It should also be noted that the magazine included Alan Wake 2 Night Springs and The Lake House. So it includes DLCs, but Shadow of the Erdtree is nowhere to be seen.

BioWare Refuses To Give Sales Update of The Latest Dragon Age Title

Fans are also trolling it for this ranking. Some are even calling it a ‘Happy April Fools’ moment, which explains the situation nicely.

Yeah that’s a wild list. This is a good argument for why non-gaming sites/forums/etc shouldn’t be involved in stuff like the Game Awards.

Also, Metaphor ReFantazio isn’t even on the list, one of the GOTY contenders at TGA 2024. Fans might not like this list by Time Magazine, but The Game Awards declaring a winner would have a lot more impact.

  • He compared KCD’s high daily active player count on Steam to BioWare’s AAA RPG in a subtle jab at BioWare.
  • Most users on the tweet have congratulated the Kingdom Come Deliverance team for still performing well.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has become one of the most controversial titles to launch this year. It featured an allegedly stale and ‘super woke’ story that rubbed gamers the wrong way. However, players are not the only ones who have called out BioWare over the RPG’s poor sales and ratings performance, as many devs in the industry have also joined in on the memes from time to time.

Now, Warhorse Studios co-creator and Kingdom Come Deliverance lead, Daniel Vavra, has also taken a jab at Dragon Age: The Veilguard over both games’ daily active player comparisons.

Why it matters: Kingdom Come Deliverance having more daily active players than Dragon Age: The Veilguard suggests the former RPG is performing better than the latter despite being 7 years old.

Daniel Vavra, the Kingdom Come Deliverance lead has roasted Dragon Age The Veilguard over having less daily active players.
Daniel Vavra, the KCD lead, has roasted Dragon Age: The Veilguard over having fewer daily active players.

Taking to Twitter, Daniel Vavra teased BioWare by comparing KCD’s 7.6k daily active players with Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s 4.6k figure. He claimed that a 7-year-old RPG was doing better than what was supposed to be a successful AAA sequel to one of the most popular franchises.

The reception to this tweet has mostly been on Daniel’s side, as many gamers also joined in to congratulate Kingdom Come Deliverance. One user said:

‘KCD is also a story-driven game, everyone who wanted to play it had 7 years to do it.’

However, some users pointed out that KCD often goes on many sales, and hype around KCD2 has also helped it out.

Warhorse Studios is currently prepping to release the Kingdom Come Deliverance sequel after enjoying critical success on its first game, which is arriving on February 11th, 2024, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard is already on sale after just over 1 month of launch.
  • The game is at 30% on different platforms, such as Xbox, PlayStation, and Amazon.
  • The sales are limited and will end soon on Xbox, but PlayStation is offering the deal until December 17.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the biggest EA single-player game on Steam, wasn’t really a success. While its concurrent players were high in the early days, it dropped really quickly. A survey even revealed that over 90% of the players didn’t enjoy the game.

Also, BioWare hasn’t given a sales figure, and the game’s director refuses to give an update. This shows that the latest entry in the Dragon Age franchise hasn’t really been a success. That could be exactly the reason why it has already seen a 30% discount on some platforms

Why it matters: Dragon Age: The Veilguard was immensely hyped, but after some reveal trailers and leaks, many fans lost the enthusiasm.

Xbox Is Offering 30% Discount On The Latest Dragon Age Title

The game is available at a 29% discount on Amazon, so if you want to grab it right now, you can get it for around $50 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. You should also note that the game is 30% off on the Xbox official store

You should also note that while the game is on sale, it is for a very limited time. The sale will end in just two days at the official Xbox store. The Deluxe edition is also on sale at the Xbox store, but the offer ends in just one day.

So, if you were sceptical about paying full price for the title but wanted to try it, then this might be the best opportunity for you to do so. Still, it is not common for games to be available at a 30% discount after over a month of release.

Many reports have indicated that Dragon Age: The Veilguard sales are poor, which adds to the volume. BioWare also decided not to give any updates, so it seems to be disappointing for the developer as well as the publisher.

Hopefully, BioWare will find out what went wrong and listen to the fans’ feedback on its future games.

  • He clarified that they were unable to disclose the sales figure for now despite rumors that the RPG sold poorly.
  • The IP’s creative director also said the RPG would never have surpassed the Dragon Age 4 that fans expected.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been shrouded by a veil of controversy ever since the entry was revealed. Gamers expected that all the rampant rumors regarding the game’s expected failure would fizzle out after its launch and BioWare’s interference. However, many of the reports about the RPG selling poorly are now proving to be more accurate, as the studio has declined to share an official sales figure.

Corinne Busche, Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s director, has now refused to share the game’s official sales numbers despite many harsh rumors, claiming it’s ‘not something’ that they can discuss.

Why it matters: Dragon Age: The Veilguard director Corinne Busche’s refusal to share the game’s official sales figure paints an extremely grim picture, suggesting the RPG indeed sold quite poorly.

Dragon-Age-The-Veilguard
Dragon Age: The Veilguard takes a shoddy and highly controversial approach to the series’ iconic legacy.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s director clarifies that the official sales numbers cannot be disclosed, even amid reports suggesting the RPG sold quite poorly. In other words, BioWare does not intend to make a refutation of those claims for now.

Unfortunately on the sales side, that’s not something we can really discuss, but of course as we know with Inquisition, that was a long burn to get to those total sales numbers.

-Corinne Busche

Series creative director John Epler also mentions that they knew Dragon Age: The Veilguard—or whatever else they came out with—was never going to surpass the Dragon Age 4 that resided in ‘people’s minds and people’s imaginations.’

Dragon Age: The Veilguard
The RPG fell short in many aspects, leading to poor sales performance and poor user ratings.

While we do not have official sales figures yet, a myriad of rumors from various sources suggests that Dragon Age: The Veilguard only sold around a million copies. It failed to recoup the project’s costs, which had accumulated over a decade.

Do you think Dragon Age: The Veilguard will eventually surpass its predecessor’s sales numbers, or will that figure be nearly impossible for the RPG? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

  • BioWare has launched an internal investigation to find Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s sales data leaker.
  • The studio says the RPG has sold now up to a million copies, which is 500k more than the initial claimed amount.
  • The one million sales figure is still not close to recouping the costs spent in developing the game.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been in murky waters way before it came close to release. From poor pre-order sales to a highly negative reception due to ‘super wokeness,’ the RPG has been criticized a lot in the industry. The title only sold a measly 500k copies during its launch week.

As per new rumors, the studio is allegedly internally investigating the source of the original sales leak, while simultaneously letting the developers know that Dragon Age: The Veilguard has now sold up to a million copies.

Why it matters: In response to rumors, BioWare has claimed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard has sold up to a million copies till now. However, it is nowhere near enough to recoup the costs spent in developing the RPG.

In a new video, YouTuber Smash JT claims that BioWare launched an investigation to discover who leaked Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s original 500k sales figure—with over 30,000 refunds issued. It was dubbed to be even worse than Star Wars Outlaws, so the studio is taking the matter quite seriously.

They’re more concerned with silencing any ‘whistleblowers’ than addressing any actual issues within the company. […] the toxic positivity has taken over the workplace.

-Smash JT

On the flip side, the reported one million sales are still deemed to be pretty poor, considering the huge scope and budget of the RPG.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Recent stats from a popular poll revealed that over 90% of players are not happy with Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

All in all, BioWare has yet to comment on the investigation. Smash JT expects that the company will announce the official sales figures soon. So, do take these rumors with a grain of salt.

  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard has received a lot of hate due to its ‘woke content’.
  • A major poll has now revealed that 94% aren’t happy with the game.
  • The majority of the players wanted the latest entry to be ‘a throwback to Dragon Age Origins with tactical combat and a darker tone.’

Dragon Age: The Veilguard was recently released to a positive reception from critics. However, fans have massively criticised the game before and after its release, and some actions from BioWare have also caused concerns.

Despite the controversy, the game has had a solid launch, but it seems to have not done so well sales-wise. That said, the franchise’s fans aren’t with the latest entry as a major poll has revealed 90% of players didn’t want the latest entry to be The Veilguard

Why it matters: The Dragon Age franchise is pretty well-known in the industry, so fans had high expectations from the recent entry.

Dragon Age The Veilguard Poll
Only 6% of Players Are Satisfied With The Latest Entry In The Dragon Age Series

Pirat_Nation on Twitter has highlighted that in a recent article, IGN conducted a poll asking fans ‘What did you want from Dragon Age 4?” Only 6% of the players voted for “Exactly what The Veilguard is.”

Over 40% of the players voted for “An Inquisition-style RPG that directly continued Solas’s story,” and nearly 48% voted for “A throwback to Dragon Age Origins with tactical combat and a darker tone.”

This shows that 94% of the players aren’t happy with BioWare’s take on Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The game was also review-bombed on Metacritic and many users have claimed that this isn’t the Dragon Age they were waiting for

While innovation is always important, changing a franchise this much might not be the best move. The Veilguard’s launch also seems to have been pretty underwhelming compared to other hit RPGs, which explains why BioWare hasn’t given an update on the sales yet.

Reports have suggested that the game has had even lower sales than Star Wars Outlaws, which was a failure. Fans should also note that so far, no expansion for The Veilguard is planned, so this could be it for this game.

Story Highlight
  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard reached an all-time peak of nearly 90K players.
  • However, shortly after that, the game lost almost 50% of its player base.
  • It is unusual for a highly anticipated RPG to lose a massive chunk of players so quickly.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard, a highly anticipated entry in the franchise, was released on 31 October. While the anticipation was pretty high, concerns were emerging as the release was getting closer.

Much footage appeared online that showcased ‘the game’s work part.’ Those particular scenes received a lot of hate, which hurt The Veilguard’s sales. The pre-orders weren’t reportedly that strong, but despite that, its launch was pretty solid

The concurrent players were less than what you would expect for such a highly anticipated game in a popular franchise. However, less than 10 days after release, the game’s player base is cut by almost half

Why it matters: RPG games with solid foundations are often played for years. Skyrim, Witcher 3, Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Black Myth: Wukong are the best examples of such games.

Dragon Age The Veilguard Players
The Highly Anticipated Dragon Age Title Has Already Lost A Lot of Players

As you can see in the image above, Dragon Age: The Veilguard reached its all-time peak 5 days ago. So, it is surprising to see it losing almost 50% of the player base so quickly despite being an RPG.

One might argue that the main story is around 50 hours long, and doing 100% would take around a hundred hours, so those players might have already been done with it. However, it is not common for an RPG game to lose an enormous amount of player base in less than 10 days after launch.

For reference, Skyrim, a 13-year-old game, still has a 24-hour peak of over 22k players. Similarly, Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Black Myth: Wukong, and The Witcher 3 have 37k, 71k, 40k, 104k, and 19k 24-hour players peak, respectively.

Some reports also revealed that many players refunded the game and that the sales aren’t that strong. This could also be the reason why BioWare has no plans to work on an expansion for the game.

What do you think of the highly anticipated title losing nearly 50% player base so quickly? Do you think it is normal? Let us know what you think in the comments section below, or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers forums.

  • Rumors claim that Dragon Age: The Veilguard has allegedly sold even worse than Star Wars Outlaws.
  • The RPG has rolled over only 500k units, which is a disappointing figure and far from breaking even for the studio.
  • On the flip side, Star Wars Outlaws has been rumored to have sold around a million copies in its first month.

Fans had high expectations for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, as it had been in the making for nearly a decade. However, it flopped quite hard after the launch. The RPG’s poorly written characters and forced DEI seeping into every depth of the story had already forecasted those results.

However, no one expected it to perform as badly as new rumors suggest. The game has allegedly sold even fewer copies than another massive flop of this year, Star Wars Outlaws.

Why it matters: Dragon Age: The Veilguard, despite having a positive reception from critics, could prove to be an even bigger flop than we expected.

The popular YouTuber ENDYMIONtv clarifies Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s allegedly terrible sales in a new video. His source revealed that the RPG seems to have sold around the 500k figure, half of what Star Wars Outlaws managed to roll over. It is nothing to boast about for an AAA title that took years to develop. Just to break even and earn any profits, the studio needs to sell about 4 to 5 million copies.

What I’m told is that Veilguard may have sold overall so far anyway in the 500,000 range.

-EndymionTV

Additionally, the players have also allegedly been refunding the entry in droves. Such a result is not all that surprising, as rumors in the past also suggested that its pre-order sales were behind Star Wars Outlaws.

  • BioWare had its hands full with Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but now it has diverted all of its attention to Mass Effect 5.
  • Due to that, there will not be a DLC or any expansions for the latest Dragon Age game.

BioWare recently released Dragon Age: The Veilguard, a game that fans have been waiting for a long time. While the game wasn’t what many franchise fans were hoping it would be, the launch was pretty solid.

So far, the developer has no plans to release a DLC for the game, as it has focused all of its attention on Mass Effect 5.

Why it matters: It has been over seven years since another instalment in the Mass Effect franchise was released, so fans have been waiting for a long time.

Mass Effect 4 Wasn’t Well Received By The Fandom And Critics on Launch

John Epler, the Creative Director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, revealed in a recent interview with The Rolling Stone that the studios’ focus has now entirely been shifted to Mass Effect 5.

there are currently no plans for downloadable expansions. The developers’ full attention has now shifted entirely to the next Mass Effect as their current project.

-John Epler

Fans who have been enjoying The Veilguard might be devastated to know that there isn’t any DLC planned, but the game’s launch wasn’t that good compared to other successful RPGs. So, BioWare might never release any additional content for this game

Regardless of that, Mass Effect fans would be delighted to hear that the studio is focusing more on this franchise. However, BioWare didn’t reveal much information about the project.

The previous Mass Effect game received a mixed reception from fans and critics, so BioWare can redeem itself, but after The Veilguard, fans aren’t that optimistic regarding Mass Effect 5.
