With just two days left before Stalker 2’s release, the excitement for this title is on the rise. Following a strong showing on the Steam best-sellers list last week, the game has continued to climb the rankings.

The first-person shooter has now left every other title on the platform in the dust, becoming Steam’s #1 best-seller.

Why it matters: GSC Game World has endured unimaginable hardships to ship its latest first-person shooter. The game’s position on Steam’s top seller list shows that these efforts will be rewarded very soon.

Until recently, this list was dominated by Call of Duty Black Ops 6. Activision’s latest annual success stayed at the top of the charts for many weeks following an explosive launch, but Stalker 2 has ended the successful run. Both games also have something in common: their status as day-one Game Pas titles.

Stalker 2 is currently just behind Counter-Strike 2 on the list. Moreover, it has beaten various free-to-play titles, including PUBG and Warzone, to claim this spot. Regarding upcoming paid titles, the likes of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 have been left behind by GSC Game World’s latest offering.

This position on the list should lead to huge player counts for Stalker 2 on Steam. Moreover, the game will likely see plenty of interest on Game Pass, making the scenario an overall win for GSC Game World.

Game optimization is one of the biggest issues in the gaming industry, and it is often neglected at the launch. We’ve seen brilliant titles like Cyberpunk 2077 fail miserably at launch, mostly because of bad optimizations. 

According to an early tester, Stalker 2 struggles to run at a smooth FPS on the Xbox Series X using the performance mode. 

Why it matters: Good optimization can either make or break a game. The audience automatically skips it if it struggles to run at smooth frame rates. 

OrfeasDourvas on Reddit tested the game early and shared a few screenshots. When asked about the performance on the Series X, they defined it as ‘not smooth’ and not a great experience. 

Sad to say it’s not great. It’s definitely not smooth. Playing on Performance. Graphics look exactly like in the images OP posted.

Orfeas also denoted that the graphics take a hit on the performance mode. It looks a ‘little dirty’ even though you can tell the textures are very high resolution. But the weather system and environmental details tell that it’s a next-gen game. 

The VRR performance is better but still not solid 60 FPS at all times. However, the best way to play Stalker 2in its current state is in quality mode at 30 FPS with VRR. It offers a stable frame rate with high fidelity. 

Even the original Stalker had performance issues when it launched. The game was later fixed via updates. Since the sequel is still a couple of days away, the devs might have a day 1 patch ready for these improvements.

Stalker 2 has had a lot of troubles in its development as the went through multiple delays. However, now the game is finally being released in less than a week so the hype is currently at an all-time high. 

The game’s previews have been highly positive with some even calling it a clear Game of The Year contender and it seems like the Xbox boss has similar remarks. Phill Spencer recently revealed that he thinks Stalker 2 is a solid Game of The Year contender.

Why it matters: Having faced multiple delays this FPS survival horror is finally releasing on November 20, 2024. A poll even revealed it as the most anticipated game of 2024.

In a recent interview with Gamefile, Phill Spencer was asked about the highly anticipated title and the development troubles it went through in Ukraine due to the war. Spencer thinks ‘the fact the game is shipping all up is remarkable‘ and that it is going to be some people’s favorite Game of The Year.

The quality has really come a long way, and I’m proud that we got to partner to get that game done. I think it’s going to be on some people’s lists of their favorite game of the year.

The Xbox boss has already played the game himself so him saying such things about it like this hypes the fandom even more. The requirements might be a bit harsh given you can’t maintain 60FPS with an RTX 4090 at 4K native resolution but hopefully, the overall experience would be better.

Stalker 2, one of the most anticipated releases this year, went gold a couple of days ago and will finally be released in less than a week. The fandom’s anticipation and excitement have gone through the roof, and the official requirements showed an optimized port. 

However, there is bad news for the fans who have been thinking that the port is highly optimized, as Nvidia’s official benchmarks say the opposite. Even the most powerful GPU RTX 4090 can’t do 4K 60FPS in the game without enabling DLSS 3.

Why it matters: Stalker 2 was voted the most anticipated game of 2024, so the new benchmarks are likely to create a wave of concern among many fans. 

The benchmarks from Nvidia were revealed a while ago after CSC Game World released the system requirements. The latter revealed that the RTX 4080 can provide a 4k 60FPS experience with ultra settings. 

However, a recent analysis from Nvidia has revealed that DLSS 3 is necessary for that. This wasn’t mentioned in the system requirements, which caused a lot of misunderstanding. 

The benchmarks show that even the beast RTX 4090 can’t maintain 60 FPS at 4k native resolution so it is pretty obvious that 4080 wouldn’t even come close. On the other hand, at 2k native resolution, RTX 4090 can dish out 75 FPS on average, but fans aren’t likely to be satisfied with that. 

Stalker 2 is an Unreal Engine 5 game that has been in development for 14 years and is massive in scope. So, even at the native 2k resolution, it is likely to look spectacular.

Stalker 2 is right around the corner, and fans couldn’t be more excited. After enduring all sorts of hardships, GSC Game World has finally wrapped up development, and all signs point to a major success for the team.

Stalker 2 is also launching day one on Game Pass, giving the studio an opportunity to reach more players than ever. To keep the excitement going, GSC Game World has shared system requirements for this Unreal Engine 5 title, showing signs of a very optimized PC version.

Why it matters: Unreal Engine 5 games are known to be very demanding on PC, but recent examples like Black Myth: Wukong have shown a shift away from this trend. GSC Game World appears to be following suit.

According to the latest requirements, the game demands a whopping 160GB of storage and at least 16GB of Dual Channel memory.

On the CPU and GPU side, a combination consisting of a Ryzen 7 3700X and an RTX 2070 Super is recommended for 1080p 60FPS gameplay at the Medium preset. On the other hand, those aiming for 1440p gameplay should consider using an RTX 3070 Ti or Radeon RX 6800 XT.

Furthermore, GSC Game World recommends an RTX 4080 for 4K 60FPS gameplay at the Epic preset. What’s interesting about these requirements is that they do not appear to consider upscaling.

All in all, the system requirements are quite modest for a brand-new Unreal Engine 5 title boasting cutting-edge visuals.

Stalker 2 officially arrives on November 20, promising a survival experience like no other. The game is set to serve as one of Xbox’s flagship exclusives this year, with a PlayStation release expected next year once the timed exclusivity window ends.

Stalker 2 has had one of the toughest development cycles for any game. With the ongoing circumstances in Ukraine, it has faced all sorts of issues. But it has finally gone gold and entered Steam’s top sellers despite a Game Pass release. 

Why it matters: A previous poll showed that Stalker 2 is one of the most anticipated games for 2024. It also became the most wishlisted Steam game in April and is still in the top 5 spots. 

Stalker 2 sits 6th on Steam’s top sellers (excluding Steam Deck). The position will undoubtedly improve even more as the launch draws nearer. Its latest previews were also remarkably positive, putting it in a solid position for Game of The Year accolade. 

While the numbers already point towards a Steam hit, data shows it’s also much awaited for the Game Pass. GSC Game World would be proud of the direction the game is heading towards even 10 days before the launch. 

Also, the game’s main story would be 40 hours long, with total completion taking 100 hours. There was a concern about the game’s performance on Xbox Series S, as it was said to run at 25FPS, but the developer has already addressed it.

Stalker 2, releasing on November 20, 2024, will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PC. There isn’t a word on the PlayStation port as of yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s planned for later as part of Microsoft’s multiplatform strategy.

Stalker 2 is one of those dream sequels that remained on everyone’s minds ever since the original reveal back in 2010. After its cancellation and reappearance, it has suffered many delays along the way. However, the title is turning out to be great, with recent gameplay videos revealing a gorgeous post-apocalyptic venture that awaits us all. And now there’s already good news for the modding community.

The game’s technical producer, Yevhenii Kulyk, has finally confirmed that Stalker 2 will feature extensive mod support on PC as well as consoles. 

Why it matters: The confirmation of mod support for Stalker 2 on Xbox Series consoles is a huge win in the eyes of the gaming industry, confirming that the studio is not ignoring the franchise’s huge modding community.

Speaking to Radio Times Gaming host Cole Luke at the Stalker 2 preview event, Yevhenii Kulyk clarified that modding has always been a big part of the franchise, and Stalker 2 is going all out to ensure fans don’t have to wait for the mod support on consoles after release for long.

“We are aware that our player base—like especially the old one—are waiting our game will support the mods as well. […] So, they will be available on the Xbox as well as the PC.”

Additionally, the technical producer confirmed that Stalker 2 will feature a pretty huge modding toolkit to let modders not only create small projects but also whip up amazing large-scale creations—or additions—as they wish.

Stalker 2 launches on 20 November 2024 after a plethora of delays. It will be available on Xbox Series X|S and PC, as a PS release is still unconfirmed.

Stalker 2 has been delayed multiple times, but that didn’t destroy its hype. In fact, this game was voted gamers‘ most anticipated game this year in a major poll. The previous previews were very positive, but despite that, the game was delayed. 

However, it is better for a game to be delayed, as a rushed release doesn’t benefit anyone, and we have learned that best from Cyberpunk 2077’s release. That said, the delays for the upcoming FPS survival horror were worth it, as the recent hands-on previews are extremely positive. 

Why it matters: Stalker 2 has already been delayed multiple times, but fans didn’t lose hope in this game, and it seems like they were right not to. 

Many media outlets had the courtesy of having hands-on experience with this game and have nothing but good things to say about it. Shinobi602 has compiled their thoughts and posted them on Twitter. 

The game seems to have left an impression that the Ukrainian Developer has created something special. 

Came away feeling like I’d played a clear game of year the contender.

With just the hands-on impression, a media outlet called it a clear Game of the Year contender, which indicates the game is really good. It is also pretty high on Steam’s most wish-listed games, so fans are pretty excited about this one. 

The previews also highlighted the refreshing challenge of managing resources like ammunition and food to survive in this title. The game design also seems quite flexible, meaning you can skip various objectives during a mission. 

Stalker 2 seems to have given players much freedom, which is what gamers love. Another unique thing was that NPCs can end the quest without rewarding you if you decide to loot the dead body of their friend. 

The enemy AI seems to be quite smart, too. Also, a preview highlighted that Stalker 2 goes ‘unexpectedly hard’ on the narrative delivery. The developers seem to have created a masterpiece that will be one of this year’s talks.

Stalker 2 has been in development for many years. Finally, after many delays, the game is set to be released later this year and is currently one of the most anticipated titles of late 2024.

While talking about Stalker 2 running on different platforms, the developers have confirmed that the game doesn’t even run at 30FPS on Xbox Series S in its current state.

Why it matters: The Xbox Series S is currently the most difficult console for developers to work with, and GSC Game World’s experience shows yet another example of its limitations.

During a recent interview with Wccftech, Lead Producer Slava Lukyanenka discussed multiple aspects of the development, including the hurdles the team faced during the optimization process.

While replying to one of the questions about the Xbox Series S, the lead producer stated that the team is confident it can still achieve solid results with enough hard work and effort.

He says the team has two modes for Xbox Series X: performance mode, which runs at 60 FPS, and quality mode, which runs at 30 FPS but offers high resolution. The team plans to combine both to achieve similar results in Series S.

Not yet. So far, we have it at 25ish FPS on the Xbox Series S, but we still have space to optimize.

Overall, Game Science is quite confident. After years of hard work, the studio seems ready to release Stalker 2, with no more delays expected. The game is finally arriving in November, so the team is working diligently to make final optimizations for the Xbox Series S.

Because Stalker 2 is built using Unreal Engine 5, the Xbox Series S will be pushed to its limits. PC will remain the best platform for this game, but GSC Game World is doing everything it can to provide an equally compelling experience on consoles.

Stalker 2 has been in development for a long time. Despite the crisis and unfortunate events in their country, GSC Game World has nearly completed its development, and the team has made no compromises.

The developer has also revealed that Stalker 2 has a huge map that will take over 100 hours to explore. The team previously stated that the main story would last about 40 hours.

Why it matters: Stalker 2 is a massive step up from the original game. Its predecessor would take just over 30 hours for completionists. So, this puts the sequel at almost thrice the size, making it a huge game. 

In an interview with GamesRadar, Yevhenii Kulyk stated that developing the map was a very challenging task. It is one thing to create a map this huge, and another to keep it memorable and interesting.

Kulyk revealed that they didn’t use procedural generation with the map at all. Procedural generation is a method of game design where you can paste already-made assets into various parts of the map to reduce the development period.

It’s really big (Map), but we still almost didn’t use any procedural generation for the world.

Instead, all the assets in the game have been hand-made, so no two buildings, rooms, or other things will have similar placements. This is impressive and goes to show the amount of dedication and passion that has been put into the development.

Furthermore, Kulyk also revealed that they’ve done a lot of tuning to the game. Even now, they are using the fan feedback from the Gamescom booth to make the experience even better. 

The game is also designed in a way that caters to both new and returning players. Even the protagonist, Skif, doesn’t know what’s happening as he is very new to the zone. So, the experience will be the same for new players.

Moreover, Stalker 2 is very unforgiving. You are bound to die multiple times while attempting something. This has been the major quality of the Stalker franchise, which is also reflected in the sequel.

Stalker 2 is one of the most anticipated releases of the year, and each new piece of information creates more anticipation. Fans should note that it will be released on Game Pass day one, so this entry is likely to be the IP’s biggest to date.
