Indiana Jones Launch Underwhelms; Reaches Just Over 8K Players On Steam is a post from Tech4Gamers - All About Technology And Gaming News

Story Highlight
  • While Indiana Jones became the 2nd best seller on Steam, its launch was quite underwhelming.
  • The game managed to reach just over 8k players, which is pretty low.
  • The reasons for the low player count could be due to its day one availability on Game Pass and the fact that players are more attracted toward Marvel Rivas and Path of Exile 2.

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle previews were highly positive, but despite that, the game’s hype wasn’t that high. While there were fans who were highly anticipating the title, its anticipation wasn’t through the roofs.

Due to that, its PC launch seems to have underwhelmed as the title has only managed to cross 8K players on Steam

Why it matters: Indiana Jones is an old classic, and its reviews are highly positive. With many singing its praises, the launch on Steam seems pretty underwhelming.

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle Steam Player Count Is Quite Disappointing | Source: SteamDB

As you can see in the image above, the game reached an all-time peak of 8,148, which is pretty low. It currently has just over 7k gamers playing it right now. Also, there seem to have been a lot of glitches affecting the fandom’s progress in-game, which seem to have been fixed.

The developer also didn’t include FSR on launch, as it will be added later. These reasons could have prevented fans from buying it right now. However, the main culprit seems to be Game Pass

To those unaware, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle launched on Game Pass day one, so many fans would have decided to play the game via the subscription service. Xbox is expanding itself more via Game Pass, so it is understandable why it would release AAA games on the subscription service from day one.

Another reason for the low player count could be that this month is currently dominated by Marvel Rivals and Path of Exile 2. The former almost reached the peak concurrent player count of half a million, with the latter reaching almost 580K players.

Nonetheless, Indiana Jones’ reviews are highly positive and highlight that it is worth experiencing. So, those who are skeptical about spending full price on it can always play it via the Game Pass.

What do you think about the Indiana Jones player count on Steam? Do you think it deserves more players? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below, or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion.

  • Indiana Jones and the Great Circle supports DLSS 3.5 and full path tracing at launch, with AMD FSR to be added later.
  • The game looks noticeably better with full ray tracing, but it also takes a huge hit on performance even on high-end Nvidia GPUs.
  • The entry finally came out on December 9th, 2024, with a positive reception for Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Despite many concerns, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has stood out to be a surprising hit of 2024. The gameplay is quite slow-paced yet immersive, with large open-world areas. MachineGames nailed the game’s visual elements before launch and also introduced DLSS 3.5 to help with performance.

However, the studio also gathered some criticism for failing to add AMD FSR at launch. Those using AMD GPUs still have to wait for one of the future updates to get the best-upscaled performance.

Why it matters: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle require FSR and DLSS to get the best performance with high graphics. Gamers with AMD GPUs are currently unable to enjoy the intended experience.

MachineGames introduced full path tracing to the Indiana Jones title before its launch in its Patch 1 update. However, the devs suggest a VRAM of at least 12 GB to enjoy the intended experience. It supports ray-traced sun shadows, reflections, and indirect illumination. A detailed comparison by YouTuber Tyrian reveals that the visual improvements are easily noticeable after turning everything on.

Even so, the sacrifices feel too great, as using the RTX 4080 also cuts frame rates by at least half. Turning on DLSS and DLSS Frame Generation considerably improves the performance.

All in all, many fans and veterans of the media franchise have enjoyed the chronicles of the great archeologist. Although graphical anomalies and other bugs—some of which have been already patched—have also hampered the experience for many players.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
The game has enjoyed quite a positive reception from fans of the franchise.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is dropping on December 9th, 2024, for Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Do you think AMD FSR will be added to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle in the next big patch, or would we have to wait for a couple of months? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the official Tech4Gamers forum.

Black Ops 6 Zombies Voice Actors Quit In Protest Amid Excessive AI Usage is a post from Tech4Gamers - All About Technology And Gaming News

Story Highlight
  • Nearly every Call of Duty Zombies voice actor has reportedly left Treyarch due to concerns over AI protection.
  • This news comes after Activision was caught using AI-generated art in Black Ops 6.
  • The company has also used AI to sell weapon skins in previous Call of Duty games.

Black Ops 6 has marked a major comeback for Call of Duty after last year’s disappointing Modern Warfare 3. The series has never been better, but it seems to have run into one major hurdle.

Following reports of major recasts for Black Ops 6 Zombies, a reliable leaker states that nearly every voice actor belonging to this specific mode has halted work on the latest Call of Duty entry.

Why it matters: The Call of Duty voice-acting cast has been with the series for many years, making this situation a huge loss for the IP.

Treyarch Is Said To Be Panicking After The Recent Departures | Image via Twitter

As per GhostofHope, nearly everyone featured in the Black Ops 6 Zombies cast has departed Treyarch. The report outlines that this situation was caused by a lack of AI protection clauses in the actors’ contracts.

For context, Julie Nathanson portrayed Samantha since Black Ops 1. The voice actor was previously part of Black Ops 6 but appears to have been replaced for the upcoming content. Fans are also concerned about similar treatment for actors like Nolan North, the voice of Richtofen.

Giving further weight to the leaker’s statement, Activision’s latest art has been criticized for being AI-generated. Fans have noted that the character portrayed in the image has six fingers, a mistake frequently seen in AI-generated content.

As per reports, Activision also sold AI-generated weapon skins in Modern Warfare 3, so this would not be the company’s first outing with artificial intelligence.

Leaker GhostofHope believes that both Microsoft and Activision are to blame for Call of Duty’s increasing reliance on artificial intelligence. Still, it remains to be seen if the core problem will be addressed for these iconic voice actors.

Xbox’s Content Quite A Bit Stronger Than PlayStation This Holiday Season, Says Analyst https://tech4gamers.com/xboxs-content-stronger-playstation-holidays/ Sat, 07 Dec 2024 23:16:25 +0000 https://tech4gamers.com/?p=290015 A reputed analyst believes that Xbox is closing the year with a much better content lineup than PlayStation.

Xbox’s Content Quite A Bit Stronger Than PlayStation This Holiday Season, Says Analyst is a post from Tech4Gamers - All About Technology And Gaming News

Story Highlight
  • An analyst has said that Xbox is currently ahead of PlayStation from a pure content perspective.
  • The former has a major advantage heading into the holidays.
  • Xbox’s strategy of avoiding the console wars also appears to be working well.

Xbox has closed out 2024 with an incredible first-party release. Defying various expectations, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle has marked a major comeback for both MachineGames and Indy.

Whether it be the game’s quality or its optimization across PC and consoles, there’s barely anything to criticize in MachineGames’ latest offering. Following this release, analysts have also noted that Xbox is ending 2024 on a very strong note.

Why it matters: The company’s first-party lineup has never looked better, showing plenty of promise for the future.

Xbox Game Pass
Game Pass Continues To Thrive As The Year Comes To A Close

As reported by Variety, analyst Clay Griffin says Xbox’s momentum has placed it ahead of PlayStation. In particular, he noted that the gaming giant’s content offerings are stronger, giving it a major advantage.

This is mainly due to two major AAA offerings in the last quarter of 2024. Not too long ago, Black Ops 6 set franchise records and drove new levels of engagement for the Xbox platform.

With Indiana Jones and The Great Circle poised for similar success on December 9, Xbox is heading into the holidays with a more enticing lineup. The gaming giant also delivered notable titles like Hellblade 2 earlier this year.

Microsoft’s portfolio is quite a bit stronger than Sony’s.

-Clay Griffin

PlayStation itself had solid exclusive offerings this year, but the gaming giant seemingly lost momentum by the end of 2024. Between Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Astro Bot, Helldivers 2, and Stellar Blade, PS5 users had plenty to keep themselves busy this year.

However, the PlayStation portfolio can appear a bit dry in comparison when considering the fact that Astro Bot arrived in September, and nothing major has shown up since then.

Xbox Series X
The Xbox Series X Looks More Appealing Than Ever

Clay Griffin also says that the new content-focused strategy is better than the gaming giant’s previous attempt at winning the console race.

Xbox’s strategy of moving up the value chain is better than trying to out-console Nintendo or Sony.

-Clay Griffin

The next year has shown similar promise for Xbox, with Avowed, Fable, and Doom: The Dark Ages leading the 2025 lineup. PlayStation seems to have a few major first-party releases up its sleeve, with Ghost of Yotei expected to be the highlight.

All in all, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for both companies. What do you think about the analyst’s conclusion? Let’s discuss this in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

  • Indiana Jones early access is available, and many users praise the game.
  • It is being called one of the best movie-based titles, which is precisely what the developers were targeting.
  • Due to so many positive reviews, it has become the Xbox’s best-rated first-party title of 2024 on Steam.

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle hype hasn’t been that massive, but those who were anticipating its release seem to be enjoying the early access. The critics have also given it a solid 86 rating, which surely made more fans look forward to it.

Those who are playing the early access seem to have a lot of positive things to say about the title. Due to the massive positive reviews, Indiana Jones has become Xbox’s best-rated first-party title this year on Steam.

Why it matters: Many users now look for Steam reviews instead of Metacritic, as they prefer to decide whether a game is worth buying by reading reviews from other consumers who bought the game and actually played it.

Indiana Jones And The Great Circle Has Very Positive Reviews On Steam

Xbox hasn’t been releasing many first-party releases, but the ones it released this year have attracted a lot of love from the fandom. Now, do note that the latest action-adventure title from MachineGames is in early access right now.

So, after full release worldwide, it is likely to receive thousands of new reviews, and the score may fluctuate. The game currently has a 93% positive rating on Steam with 970 reviews.

Among these reviews, 906 are positive. Users are showering it with nothing but praise in the review section, and some even claim it to be the best movie-based game after Alien: Isolation.

Only 5 hours into the story, but the game is phenomenal. It is an Indiana Jones Immersive sim almost. It has MASSIVE expansive levels with loads of sidequests that all feel directly involved with the main story so you feel like Indy piecing together a mystery.

-Steam Review

Other players are defining it as a technical marvel, and they have been constantly spotting green flags. The performance has been highly praised, too, as the title seems pretty optimized, even though there were concerns regarding that. It also runs pretty well on the low-end console like Xbox Series S.

That said, some people have complained about it crashing randomly and that the DLSS is broken. These issues can be fixed via patch, so it’s good to see that fans are enjoying the overall experience.

Indiana Jones Surprisingly Runs At Almost Locked 60 FPS On Xbox Series S In Performance Mode https://tech4gamers.com/indiana-jones-series-s-performance/ Sat, 07 Dec 2024 08:30:34 +0000 https://tech4gamers.com/?p=289920 Indiana Jones managed to maintain a locked 60 FPS on the Xbox Series S at around 1080p resolution with sold performance on all platforms.

Story Highlight
  • Indiana Jones manages to hit a locked 60 FPS on the Xbox Series S most of the time.
  • The graphics are toned down a bit, but it does feature raytraced reflections.
  • The overall performance on both the consoles and PC is impressive due to ID Tech Engine.

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle recently opened to great reviews from critics and fans alike. While the full launch doesn’t happen till December 9, thorough testing of the title reveals that Machine Games has done a fantastic job optimizing it.

Indiana Jones mostly runs at a locked 60 FPS on the Xbox Series S in Performance Mode, which is a massive step in the right direction, considering that the console usually holds back most developers.

Why it matters: Stutters and frame drops are common with Unreal Engine 5. Id Tech doesn’t suffer from those issues and even provides a decent experience on the lower-powered Series S.

According to Digital Foundry, Indiana Jones runs at locked 60 FPS most of the time on both Series X and S. However, some notable differences exist between the visual quality of Microsoft’s offerings.

With Series X, you get crisper visuals and no artifacts. Series S uses Variable Rate Shading, which has a lot of potential but hasn’t been implemented well. This results in hazy visuals and less texture quality.

Indiana Jones graphics take a hit on Xbox Series S

Impressively, Series S features raytraced reflections, which were missing in Doom Eternal. Moreover, the resolution also remains around or slightly below 1080p, which is quite impressive for the tiny console.

While this shouldn’t be an issue in most games in the first place, the performance in Indiana Jones is impressive because it has high graphical fidelity, huge open-world maps, and raytraced reflections.

Overall, the game magnificently captures the true essence of Indiana Jones. The good performance is just the cherry on top, making the experience even more engaging and immersive.

PlayStation Secured GTA Exclusivity For PS2 Over Fear of Xbox, Says Former Exec https://tech4gamers.com/playstation-gta-exclusivity-fear-of-xbox/ Fri, 06 Dec 2024 17:57:55 +0000 https://tech4gamers.com/?p=289891 A former Sony executive has highlighted that PlayStation rushed to secure GTA exclusivity amid Xbox's impending threat during the PS2 era.

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation felt threatened by Xbox’s entry into the gaming industry over two decades ago.
  • This led to the gaming giant pursuing exclusivity for various IPs, including GTA.
  • GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas launched as PS2 exclusives during the early 2000s.

The GTA franchise is unparalleled in its global popularity within the industry today. As evident by the reactions to the first GTA 6 trailer, this series has been a major part of gaming culture and entertainment for decades.

Much of GTA’s legacy is also tied to PlayStation. With fan-favorite titles like GTA 3 and San Andreas launching as PlayStation exclusives, fans on this platform have a long history with the series. According to a new interview, this relationship may never have existed without Xbox.

Why it matters: PlayStation’s early focus on exclusivity continues to bring positive results to this day.

GTA 3
Xbox Refused GTA 3 Exclusivity And Later Regretted This Decision

According to Chris Deering, the former president of PlayStation Europe, the company has always prioritized exclusivity.

PlayStation’s early focus on exclusives helped the PS1 become a standout success and ensured the PS2 sold 160 million units altogether. However, the company still felt threatened by Xbox’s initial entry into the industry.

As Chris Deering points out, Xbox’s threat compelled PlayStation to pursue exclusivity deals for various third-party IPs before the PS2 generation kicked off, and GTA ended up being one such franchise.

We were worried when we saw Xbox. A few of us went out to our favorite third-party publishers. One of these deals was for the next three Grand Theft Auto games.

-Chris Deering

GTA San Andreas
Rockstar Games Produced Back To Back Hits With The Grand Theft Auto IP

PlayStation’s agreement with Take-Two guaranteed exclusivity for three major releases, including GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. While all of these would later arrive on Xbox, the GTA series had already become synonymous with Sony’s gaming platform by that point.

This information becomes all the more interesting when considering that Xbox had previously turned down an exclusivity offer for GTA 3. Microsoft thought the game sounded too good to be true.

We’re Reaching A Point Where ‘Consoles Become Irrelevant’ Soon, Says Ex-Sony Boss https://tech4gamers.com/consoles-become-irrelevant-soon-sony/ Fri, 06 Dec 2024 14:15:34 +0000 https://tech4gamers.com/?p=289873 The former Sony Interactive Entertainment America CEO thinks that consoles might become completely irrelevant in the next generation or two.

  • Shawn Layden claims that we are nearing a point where consoles will become irrelevant as we know them.
  • The former Sony exec believes that the collapse of traditional consoles might happen in the next two generations.
  • Sony and Xbox have adapted to this dismal scenario by releasing their first-party titles on other platforms.

The concerns of modern consoles becoming trivial one day have been there ever since they came into power in the gaming scene. These fears have grown over the last decade as the differences between generations have become less noticeable. Now, gamers are not the only ones worried about this changing shift, as the former Sony boss also believes that consoles might become irrelevant soon.

He believes that this shift will happen in the next generation or two.

Why it matters: The words of the ex-Sony boss suggest that even the higher-ups are concerned with the traditional consoles eventually collapsing. We might see consoles become irrelevant in the next two generations.

Shawn Layden Featured
Shawn Layden also argued that PS launching games on Xbox is not worth it.

Speaking to Eurogamer in an interview, the ex-Sony boss clarified that we have already reached a point where the ‘innovation curve’ in console hardware ‘is starting to plateau or top out.’ Additionally, he thinks that Xbox and PlayStation are already close to the final console specs.

I think we’re at a point where the console becomes irrelevant in the next… if not the next generation then the next next generation definitely.

The difference between the console generations has become so small that noticing them is extremely hard unless you have top-range TVs and speakers. So, consoles becoming irrelevant is only a matter of time.

Xbox Series X Vs PlayStation 5
Xbox has already adapted to this grim scenario by adopting a complete multiplatform strategy.

Xbox has changed its strategy in a pretty controversial move to adapt to the changing times. On the flip side, PlayStation has also started releasing its first-party games on PC more often.

Do you think the traditional consoles will become fully obsolete in the next two generations, or did Shawn just discuss the most grim scenario? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the official Tech4Gamers forum.

  • It is a classic take on Indiana as a character reminiscent of the older movies.
  • Apart from a few performance issues, Machine Games has nailed the title.

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle was supposed to be one of the year’s biggest releases. It seems that the game has delivered as it has garnered great reviews for providing a classic Indiana experience reminiscent of the classic movies.

Why it matters? Many fans were skeptical about Machine Games’ release as Xbox hasn’t released the best of the titles this year. However, most will be glad to discover Indian Jones is fun, fresh, and full of adventures.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has already been criticized by many gamers for having extremely high system requirements.
Indiana Jones has received excellent reviews

Indiana Jones has snagged an 86/100 average score on Metacritic, with the PC score being 87. with most reviews being very positive. Other major outlets have also given it decent scores. A few notable ones include:

  • PC Gamer: 86/100
  • Eurogamer: 5/5
  • VGC: 5/5
  • GamesRadar: 5/5
  • Metacritic: 86/100
  • Opencritic 86/100

The reviews praise the game for being a proper testimonial to the classic era of Indiana Jones. It’s a great title with a captivating storyline, decent combat, and an adventure that keeps you immersed in the game.

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle
Indiana Jones being praised as an excellent adaptation

It properly defines what Indiana Jones stands for. It offers great exploration with plenty of mysteries to uncover leading up to the showdown. All in all, it’s an excellent title and the most faithful Indiana Jones adaptation we’ve seen so far.

However, there are a few performance issues too. It has some hefty system requirements, but the overall performance on the PC isn’t bad. Xbox features a few frames drops here and there but it’s nothing game-breaking.

Xbox will be glad that they’ve finally hit the mark with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. It has now delivered two decent titles in a row, the other being Stalker 2. Nonetheless, Indiana Jones is also slated for a PS5 release later down the line.

PlayStation Handheld May Struggle Due To Lack of Console Experience Like Series S, Say Analyst is a post from Tech4Gamers - All About Technology And Gaming News

Story Highlight
  • Both Sony and Microsoft are working on a dedicated handheld seemingly to compete with Nintendo.
  • Analysts have concluded that the former could have problems in this market.
  • The PlayStation handheld can struggle due to the lack of experience with low-end consoles like the Xbox Series S.

Sony has been dominating the console market due to a lack of challenge from Xbox. The latter has completely changed its approach and doesn’t really care about console wars anymore.

However, both seem to be quite interested in the handheld market now. While Xbox has confirmed it is working on a handheld, Sony has yet to officially confirm it, but the sources that revealed this information are reliable enough to confirm the handheld’s existence.

While the gaming giant is interested in the market, it is likely to struggle due to having no low-end console experience like the Xbox Series S.

Why it matters: Xbox Series S forces developers (which many have complained about) to optimize their games according to its low-end specifications. This experience is what Sony lacks.

According to Digital Foundry, the upcoming Handheld by Sony could have trouble running PS5 games while the Xbox handheld can shine more. The Xbox Series S runs games at 720P or 1080P, depending on how demanding it is, which is the same as how a handheld would run it.

So, the developers are aware of the challenge especially when it comes to porting games to the Series S. So, this could give Microsoft an edge in the handheld market.

Sony never had an Xbox Series S that forced developers to make these low-end profiles for games, and in this case, if they bring out a handheld, I think it would be almost like a Sony VR2.

He further started that the handheld could have its own version of games after it comes out or via patches. So, this would make it a new lower-end PS5 that doesn’t have a full backward compatibility catalog.

Porting Games To Xbox Series S Has Proven To Be Quite Challenging For Developers

It seems possible that Sony can release patches for its game to work on a lower-end console just like it released for a higher-end PS5 Pro. However, as per the analysts, it will have troubles given having no experience with consoles like the Xbox Series S.

So, it will be good to see how the gaming giant manages to cross this hurdle. What do you think about the analysts’ comments on the matter? Do you think Microsoft has the upper hand? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
